Environmental and Bush Craft Skills
This course takes place at Sussex Central YMCA’s flourishing allotment where the learner experiences preparing the land and growing a range of vegetables. As well as learning and practicing many horticulture techniques, pupils will learn the basics of how to maintain a wide range of gardening and wood tools.
Course Content
The course runs one day a week for 12 weeks. It contains a mix of theory and practical work. It is recommended that learners have a keen interest in agriculture and horticulture. It is ideal for learners wanting to progress onto agricultural and land based courses at further education colleges. Health and Safety and Drug Awareness will also be included in the course.

There will be a number of assessed individual and group tasks throughout the course. The learner will be required to complete a portfolio of work as evidence that will be graded. Upon successful completion of the course, the learner will be able to continue on to further education or look for work placements.
Other Information
This course is ideal for students wanting to progress onto agricultural and land based courses at local FE Colleges. Over the duration of the course the learners will receive support and feedback from the tutors, and have the opportunity to reflect and evaluate their performance during each of the tasks. Leading up to the end of the course, tutors will guide the pupil into further education or work placements.
