Build a Bike
Special Educational Needs
Each learner will build a bike from recycled parts, check that it is road worthy and undertake a bike safety workshop before heading out for a ride on their new bike. Once the learner has participated in the year’s course they get to keep the bike they have built. Other areas such as first aid, health & safety, drugs & alcohol awareness workshops will take place throughout the year, the learners will need to attend these to gain the full qualification and keep their bike.
Course Content
Term 1: Mostly practical work fixing the parts needed to build a bike. Complete a Drugs Awareness Workshop and a Personal Development sheet.
Term 2: Put bike together complete all checks. Alcohol Awareness Workshop, Health & Safety Level 1 and Personal Development sheet. Attend Bike Safety Workshop.
Term 3: Complete a CV and application form. Ride bikes safely over the Downs, through the town using bike lanes, keep bikes clean and maintain them for the duration of the course whilst finishing off the final touches to bikes and portfolios.
Accreditation Details
This course will give the learner at least 21 credits towards further education for college placements.
AQA Build a Bike Certificate and Bike for Life Maintenance Course Certificate. Health & Safety At Work, First Aid Certificate.
